The Department of Hospitality and Catering Technology organized an Alumni Interaction Session titled “Front Office Fundamentals, Today’s Trends and Real-World Applications” on 06 February 2026 at Room No. 165. The session was conducted by Mr. Ronald Charles, a distinguished alumnus of the department and currently serving as Assistant Manager at Taj Vivanta, Bengaluru. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of II, IV, and VI Semesters.
During the session, Mr. Ronald Charles provided valuable insights into the core fundamentals of front office operations and elaborated on how the department has evolved in response to changing guest expectations, digital transformation, and service personalization. He emphasized the importance of communication skills, grooming standards, problem-solving abilities, and guest relationship management in ensuring exceptional hospitality experiences.
A major highlight of the interaction was the practical demonstration of the OPERA Property Management System (PMS). Mr. Charles explained the real-world application of the software in handling reservations, check-in and check-out procedures, guest profile management, billing processes, and report generation. This hands-on exposure enabled students to connect theoretical knowledge with actual hotel operational practices, enhancing their technical understanding of front office systems.
In addition to technical knowledge, Mr. Charles shared his professional journey from being a student to becoming an industry professional, motivating students to set clear career goals and continuously upgrade their skills. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to ask questions, seek career guidance, and understand industry expectations more clearly.
The primary objective of organizing the alumni interaction was to strengthen the bond between alumni and current students while providing industry-oriented exposure to front office fundamentals and emerging trends. The session successfully bridged the gap between academic learning and practical application, offering students valuable mentorship, technological awareness, and professional inspiration in the field of hospitality.
