The Department of Forensic Science, School of Sciences, Garden City University organized a Social Outreach Programme – Eye Awareness Camp on 19th February 2026 at the GCU OMR Campus (Open Stage & Physiocare) in association with Zamindar Microsurgical Eye Centre, with the objective of creating awareness about eye health and the prevention of avoidable blindness among students, staff, and the local community. The programme witnessed a total participation of 220 individuals, which included 100 external participants, 80 students, 10 faculty members, and around 30 non-teaching staff.
The event commenced with the formal welcome of the Chief Guest, Dr. Samina Zamindar, Founder and Chief Medical Director of Zamindar Microsurgical Eye Centre, along with her team members, in the presence of Dr. Biju Dharmapalan, Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. Joemon K J, Head of the Department of Forensic Science, and Mrs. Reshma Binu Prasad, GCU Pulse Coordinator. This was followed by an eye awareness session conducted for all participants, highlighting the importance of regular eye check-ups, preventive measures for avoidable blindness, and the need for early diagnosis of vision-related issues. As part of the initiative, the students took a pledge to serve as Community Vision Leaders, committing themselves to spreading awareness about eye health within their communities. The programme concluded with a Free Eye Screening Camp conducted by the medical team from Zamindar Microsurgical Eye Centre, where participants underwent preliminary eye examinations and received professional consultation and guidance for further treatment wherever required.
