BA Journalism (Hons), Psychology & English in Garden City University offers you the opportunity to pursue the undergraduate course in the fastest growing Media Hub of India, Bangalore, which will pave your way to world-class journalism and media. Journalism is the practice of investigation and reporting of events, issues, and trends to a broad audience. Along with covering organizations and institutions such as Government and Business, journalism also covers cultural aspects of society, such as Arts and Entertainment. It is a 3 academic year degree course. Our programme projects you to a spectrum of theoretical and practical approach to Journalism and Mass Communication. BA Journalism and Communication is designed to provide high-quality journalistic education, maintaining an optimum balance between theory and practice. This programme is designed to equip the students with knowledge in handling the latest technology advancement in media and journalism, with a balanced curriculum that challenges students to confront contemporary issues in media theory, cultural issues, research, policy, and management. To provide them practical knowledge about the industry, we also ensure to bring several eminent personalities from the journalism and media industry. Students are given hands-on experience through our in-house monthly magazine (GCC WORLD), a weekly newspaper (GCC Élan) and other periodicals. The course stimulates the students to become media professionals such as reporters, editors, PROs, advertising creative heads and corporate communication head in future.

The course materials are varied, ranging from Photojournalism, History of Print Media and Electronic Media, Indian Constitution, Gender Studies, Public Relations and Corporate Communications, New Media, Script Writing and Film Studies.

To encourage the innovative ideas of the students, we organize National Level Seminar “MEDIA SPARK”, where each student get equal opportunity to portray their research skill and come out with their innovations. Literature Fest, Theatre Fest “SIDEWALK”, National Film Festival “CARTE BLANCHE”, guest lectures and workshops presided over by industry professionals give the students a hands-on-training of the industry

This course is accredited by the regulating body of Garden City University and is approved by the regulatory authority of University Grants Commission.

Teaching Style

Our department has a good repute of teaching in a student friendly domain. We use a blend of teaching styles including traditional lectures, small and large tutorial groups, practical laboratories, individual and group projects, and provide opportunities to speak to the mentors on a one-to-one basis. We have an active research programme that we bring to supplement on our teaching, manifesting all students in the final years of their courses to the latest issues in the field.

Journalism is a flexible and adaptable subject that equips you with a wide range of transferable skills appropriate to many different occupations. Graduates from our Journalism BA possess skills in written and spoken communication, independent thought and judgement, critical thinking and research, all of which are highly valued by employers. Applicants may be interested in a career in journalism, publishing and the creative industries, Travel Agent & Tour Operator or in education and research. Many graduates also go into Management Manager, PCS Officer, and the public services.

Entry Requirements

Pass in 10+2 / Equivalent with minimum of five subjects.

Wherever grading system or any other system is followed for evaluating the performance of the candidate in the qualifying examination, the applicant should ensure that a certificate indicating the percentage obtained has to be submitted through the University / Board last studied. Applicants passing GCE / O / A level examination should have passed 4 + 3 or 5 + 2 subjects at the O & A level respectively.

The examination approved by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) only will be considered by the Garden City University, others who have passed the examination which is not in the AIU approved list shall obtain equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities.
