Bangalore, Karnataka | 2026: “Being in education is the worthiest of professions and one of the most powerful means of safeguarding and advancing humanity”, quoted His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan.
Held at Garden City Student Knowledge Park on 5th June, in an initiative aimed at fostering global leadership, academic excellence, and societal transformation, the University instituted the Dr. Joseph VG Distinguished Chair for Visionary Leadership and Education and formally appointed His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan, 5th President of the Republic of Maldives, as its inaugural Chair Professor for the academic year 2026–2027.
Addressing the gathering on, “Global Responsibility and Youth Leadership: Shaping the Future Beyond Borders,” Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan reflected the University’s commitment to nurturing future-ready leaders capable of addressing challenges that transcend geographical and political boundaries. He highlighted that true leadership reflects the ability to persevere cultural values, protect resources, safeguard societies from national and international threats, and contribute meaningfully to humanity. He quoted “Good leaders are not merely visible leaders; they are individuals with analytical minds, strong ethical foundations, and the courage to sacrifice for what is just and moral. They grow through challenges and remain committed to serving society.” Encouraging students and faculty members to become active contributors to social change, Dr. Waheed noted that while opportunities to directly serve one’s nation may not always be available to everyone, opportunities to serve humanity are ever-present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Joseph VG, Chancellor of Garden City University, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Waheed for engaging with the university community and sharing his vision for global leadership. Reaffirming the University’s commitment to accessible higher education, Dr. Joseph VG highlighted the institution’s pioneering “Study First, Pay Next” policy, which seeks to ensure that no deserving student is denied educational opportunities due to financial constraints. “Every student, irrespective of economic background, deserves access to quality higher education. Education should empower dreams, not be limited by financial barriers,” he stated.
The Chancellor also declared that the Garden City student knowledge park is now officially open to students, faculty members, researchers, and academic collaborators from across the world, reinforcing University’s vision of becoming a globally connected learning ecosystem.
The event was graced by distinguished academic leaders including Vice Chancellor Dr. Ramachandra Gowda, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Rajesh Palalyil, Registrar Dr. Sheeja M.S. and Director Strategy and planning Mr Christo Joseph FRSA, along with faculty members, students, researchers, and invited guests.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, 2026: ವಿಶ್ವಮಟ್ಟದ ನಾಯಕತ್ವ ರೂಪಿಸುವುದು ಇಂದಿನ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳ ಆದ್ಯ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ.ನಿಜವಾದ ನಾಯಕತ್ವವು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ, ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳ ರಕ್ಷಣೆ, ಹಾಗೂ ಮನುಕುಲದ ಒಳಿತಿಗಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಮಾಲ್ಡೀವ್ಸ್ ಗಣರಾಜ್ಯದ ಐದನೇ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಪತಿಗಳಾದ ಡಾ. ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವಹೀದ್ ಹಸನ್ ಅವರು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು.
ಗಾರ್ಡನ್ ಸಿಟಿ ಸ್ಟೂಡೆಂಟ್ ನಾಲೆಡ್ಜ್ ಪಾರ್ಕ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಜೂನ್ 5 ರಂದು ನಡೆದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ಜಾಗತಿಕ ನಾಯಕತ್ವ, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಯನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವು ‘ಡಾ. ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ವಿ.ಜಿ. ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ನಾಯಕತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಚೇರ್’ ಅನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿತು. ಈ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಚೇರ್ಗೆ ಮಾಲ್ಡೀವ್ಸ್ ಗಣರಾಜ್ಯದ 5ನೇ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಪತಿಯಾದ ಡಾ. ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವಹೀದ್ ಹಸನ್ ಅವರನ್ನು 2026–2027ನೇ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ವರ್ಷದ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಚೇರ್ ಪ್ರೊಫೆಸರ್ ಆಗಿ ನೇಮಕಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಾಗತಿಕ ಹೊಣೆಗಾರಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಯುವ ನಾಯಕತ್ವ: ಗಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿ ಭವಿಷ್ಯ ರೂಪಿಸುವುದು ವಿಷಯದ ಕುರಿತು ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸ ನೀಡಿದ ಡಾ. ವಹೀದ್, ಭೌಗೋಳಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಗಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರುವ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಲು ಸಮರ್ಥರಾಗಿರುವ ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ನಾಯಕರನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸುವ ಗಾರ್ಡನ್ ಸಿಟಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸಿದರು.
ಉತ್ತಮ ನಾಯಕರು ಕೇವಲ ಹೇಸರಿಗಷ್ಟೆ ನಾಯಕರಲ್ಲ; ಅವರು ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಣಾತ್ಮಕ ಚಿಂತನೆ, ಬಲವಾದ ನೈತಿಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನ್ಯಾಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಸತ್ಯದ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು. ಸವಾಲುಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಅವರು ಸಮಾಜಸೇವೆಗೆ ಸದಾ ಬದ್ಧರಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಬೋಧಕ ವೃಂದವನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ಭಾಗವಾಗಲು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಅವರು, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ತಮ್ಮ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರವನ್ನು ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಸುವ ಅವಕಾಶ ದೊರೆಯದೇ ಇರಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಮಾನವತೆಯ ಸೇವೆಗೆ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳು ಸದಾ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಗಾರ್ಡನ್ ಸಿಟಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಕುಲಾಧಿಪತಿಗಳಾದ ಡಾ. ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ವಿ.ಜಿ, ಡಾ. ವಹೀದ್ ಅವರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಜಾಗತಿಕ ನಾಯಕತ್ವದ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನವನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು.
ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುವ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಪುನರುಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದ ಅವರು, ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಅಡಚಣೆಗಳಿಂದ ಯಾವುದೇ ಅರ್ಹ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದಿಂದ ವಂಚಿತರಾಗಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಜಾರಿಗೊಳಿಸಿರುವ “ಸ್ಟಡಿ ಫಸ್ಟ್, ಪೇ ನೆಕ್ಸ್ಟ್” ನೀತಿಯನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದರು. ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಇರಲಿ, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗೂ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆಯುವ ಹಕ್ಕಿದೆ. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವು ಕನಸುಗಳಿಗೆ ರೆಕ್ಕೆ ನೀಡಬೇಕು; ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಮಿತಿಗಳಿಂದ ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ತಡೆ ಉಂಟಾಗಬಾರದು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಾರ್ಡನ್ ಸಿಟಿ ಸ್ಟೂಡೆಂಟ್ ನಾಲೆಡ್ಜ್ ಪಾರ್ಕ್ ಅನ್ನು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, ಬೋಧಕರು, ಸಂಶೋಧಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಹೋದ್ಯೊಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಧಿಕೃತವಾಗಿ ಮುಕ್ತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಿದರು. ಇದು ಜಾಗತಿಕವಾಗಿ ಕಲಿಕಾ ಪರಿಸರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಮೈಲಿಗಲ್ಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಲಪತಿ ಡಾ. ರಾಮಚಂದ್ರ ಗೌಡ, ಪ್ರೊ-ಕುಲಪತಿ ಡಾ. ರಾಜೇಶ್ ಪಾಲಯಿಲ್, ಕುಲಸಚಿವೆ ಡಾ. ಶೀಜಾ ಎಂ.ಎಸ್., ಕಾರ್ಯತಂತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಯೋಜನಾ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ಟೋ ಜೋಸೆಫ್, ಬೋಧಕ ವೃಂದ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, ಸಂಶೋಧಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಗಣ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳು ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.
