The International Film Festival – 2026 was organized by the School of Media Studies at Garden City University on 16th and 17th March 2026 at the Garden City University Campus. The event was conducted in collaboration with Film Sphere, GCU Productions, and Nimma Namma Cinema. It was held in association with the Culture House of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, and the Chennai International Film Festival.
The two-day festival showcased seven international films from different parts of the world, offering students and faculty members an opportunity to experience a wide range of cinematic styles, narratives, and cultural perspectives. The screenings highlighted the richness of global cinema and introduced participants to diverse storytelling techniques and artistic approaches used by filmmakers across different countries.
The festival aimed to cultivate an appreciation for international cinema among students and encourage them to critically engage with films as a powerful medium of storytelling and cultural expression. Film festivals play a significant role in expanding audiences’ understanding of different cultures and perspectives while promoting the artistic value of cinema across nations.
Through curated screenings and discussions, the programme encouraged students to analyze cinematic language, narrative structures, and socio-cultural themes represented in international films. Such initiatives also help create awareness about global film traditions and provide a platform for dialogue and learning through visual storytelling.
The International Film Festival – 2026 successfully created a vibrant space for film appreciation and cultural exchange within the university community. The event enriched students’ academic and creative understanding of cinema while reinforcing the role of film festivals in promoting cross-cultural dialogue and artistic exploration through the medium of film.
