“In a world divided by differences, Garden City University is uniting students through purpose, passion, and progress,” said Cllr Jackson , Mayor of Islington, London at the 7th Annual Convocation Ceremony of Garden City University (GCU). The three-day event, held from July 23 to 25, 2025, at the University’s K.R. Puram campus, witnessed the conferring of degrees upon graduating students from diverse disciplines, alongside inspiring speeches, cultural moments, and landmark announcements.
The highlight of the final day was the presence of His Worship, the Mayor of Islington London, Mayor Jason Jackson, who travelled to India to be part of the convocation. His visit underscored GCU’s growing international partnerships and global footprint. Born in Nigeria and raised in East London, Cllr Jackson is widely recognised for his advocacy in education equity and youth empowerment across the UK. During his keynote, he shared his journey of resilience that began from migrating at age 13 to leading a student movement that helped save a university in London.
Cllr. Jackson in his address said, “Garden City University is an institution that doesn’t just prepare students for the world—it prepares them to change it.” He praised Chancellor Dr. Joseph V.G. for fostering an “ecosystem of talent and transformation,” and encouraged students to value the friendships they form—calling them a true source of lifelong wealth.
Chancellor Dr. Joseph V.G. echoed the sentiment, adding, “Graduation is not just about achievement—it’s a reminder of our responsibility to lead with empathy, to create with purpose, and to stay grounded in the values that brought us here.” He encouraged graduates to carry forward the spirit of community and courage, no matter where life takes them.
The convocation also featured powerful addresses from distinguished guests over the first two days. On Day 1, Shri Mohan Rao Goli, Corporate Vice President at Samsung R&D Institute India, inspired graduates to lead with confidence, communicate boldly, and embrace innovation. On Day 2, Dr. Jacob Crasta, Chairman of CM Envirosystems, encouraged graduates to remain alert, fearless, and open to the world’s abundant opportunities. Both speakers left students with the message that their ideas and integrity are their greatest assets.
The convocation brought together voices from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared belief in the power of education. As graduates take their next steps, Garden City University remains committed to supporting their journeys—with a focus on learning, character, and a broader understanding of the world around them.
