The Department of Hospitality and Catering Technology organized an Alumni Interaction Session titled “Building Effective Résumés and Professional LinkedIn Profile” on 18 February 2026 at Room No. 165. The session was conducted by Mr. Umesh Thirumalai, a distinguished alumnus and hospitality professional, who shared his expertise on career branding and professional networking. The program witnessed active participation from students across various semesters.
During the session, Mr. Umesh Thirumalai emphasized the importance of creating a well-structured and impactful résumé that reflects an individual’s skills, achievements, internships, certifications, and industry exposure. He guided students on selecting appropriate formats, using action-oriented language, highlighting measurable achievements, and tailoring résumés according to specific job roles in the hospitality industry. He also stressed the significance of clarity, brevity, and professionalism in résumé presentation.
A major highlight of the session was the detailed guidance on developing a strong and professional profile on LinkedIn. Mr. Thirumalai explained how students can effectively optimize their profiles by crafting compelling headlines, writing professional summaries, showcasing projects and internships, and gaining endorsements and recommendations. He also demonstrated how LinkedIn can be used as a powerful networking tool to connect with industry professionals, follow reputed hospitality brands, explore job opportunities, and stay updated with current industry trends.
In addition to technical guidance, Mr. Thirumalai shared practical tips on personal branding, professional etiquette in online communication, and maintaining a consistent digital presence. He encouraged students to actively engage with industry-related content, participate in discussions, and build a professional network that supports long-term career growth.
