DigiLocker : Your Documents Anytime, Anywhere

BANGALORE, Sept. 30, 2019 - Sri C N Ashwath Narayan, Honorable Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and Minister of Higher Education, IT & Biotechnology and Science & Technology along with Dr Joseph V G - Chancellor GCU, inaugurated the Garden City University - DigiLocker awareness drive today at the Karnataka Higher Education Council. This University Social Responsibility (USR) activity undertaken by Garden City University is to ensure that the people are aware of the application and its uses.

Speaking on the occasion Sri Ashwath Narayan said “DigiLocker can be the real solution the society was looking forward that could address the citizen’s concern (regarding carrying and safety of original documents) and probably this is the best initiative; I appreciate Garden City University for taking up this drive of reaching out to the people and creating awareness about this app.”

The campaign…. will be held every weekend during the month of October, 2019 from 11:00 am to 06:00 pm in public locations including the metro stations, bus stations, railway stations, malls and other public places of east Bangalore where the volunteering students and faculty members will primarily assist people to get them connected with the service safely and help them with its use.

DigiLocker is Government of India’s authentic app for issuance and verification of documents & certificates in a digital way, thus eliminating the use of physical documents. With this application people would not have to carry their documents in original wherever they go. DigiLocker is an online service provided by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), Government of India under its Digital India initiative.

DigiLocker provides an account in cloud to every Indian citizen to access authentic documents/certificates such as driving license, vehicle registration, and academic mark list in digital format from the original issuers of these certificates. It also provides 1GB storage space to each account to upload scanned copies of legacy documents. Users need to possess an Aadhar card to use DigiLocker. For sign-up, the Aadhar card number and the one-time password sent to the Aadhar-associated mobile number, need to be entered. For later log-ins, the user can set their own password or link the account to Facebook or Google logins.

Documents on DigiLocker is accepted by the RTO, Traffic Police, Railways, Airports, Universities, Passport Offices etc.

Garden City University is established under Karnataka State Act no. 47 of 2013. The Garden City University Act received the assent of the Governor of Karnataka on 26th March 2013 and was published in the Karnataka Gazette on 12th April 2013. The University Grants Commission has listed Garden City University in the recognized list of Private Universities in India on its website.
